Susan Pellowe is a Bard
of the Cornish Gorsedd that is, she has been honored by the
Council of Bards for her services to Cornwall, specifically for
her dedication to preserving and promoting Cornish culture. She
is one of the few Americans so honored. Her father came from the
ancient borough of Penryn and Sue, having spent considerable time
in Cornwall over the past 35 years, maintains strong ties with friends
and projects there. She has published articles about Cornwall and
a delightful heritage cookbook, Saffron
& Currants, now in its second edition. She promotes
Cornish film and theatre, music and art.
A Methodist historian,
she presented an anecdotal history for the United Methodist Church's
2002 Jurisdictional Conference in northern Michigan on the influence
of the 80+ Cornish Methodists who came to that state to become Methodist
ministers. She is also working on a book of Cornish stories, some
of which come from her popular storytelling program,
My Cornish Cupboard.
